Social Worker

Phumelela Nonhlakanipho Phewa earned her National Senior Certificate in 2013. She holds a Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of South Africa, an Honours Degree via Bachelor of Art in Psychology from the University of South Africa. Phumelela started working as an intern at eThekwini Municipality from 2019- 2021 in collaboration with the Umkhumbane Schools Project, and in 2021 she joined the USP full-time. Phumelela works in three USP schools as a social worker, providing counselling and references to learners, parents, and even school workers. She also runs programs for girls, such as the Girls Club and Big Sister/ Little Sister Club. Phumelela works closely with the Jes Foord Foundation, an organisation that helps rape survivors and provides trauma counseling.
