WAO! Program Coordinator

Jade Petersen-Charles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Astrophysics and Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Astrophysics and Space Science from the University of Cape Town. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Astronomy focusing on programming and machine learning at the University of the Western Cape and funded by the Centre for Radio Cosmology. She has worked as a mathematics tutor and physical science tutor for various companies since 2015. Jade is passionate about using her STEM training toward education best practices. 

In 2020, Jade became a Team Leader in the USP’s WAO! (WhatsApp Outreach) Mathematics Program. In this role, she delivered mathematics lessons to grade 11 students via the WhatsApp platform. In 2021, she became the program coordinator of  WAO! and handles all administrative tasks as well as supervises the grade 12 mathematics lessons.
